He was adrift.

A leaf in the wind.

He followed the path of least resistance.

He didn’t need a physical body to traverse this world.

A single step would free him. He only had to take it.

Breathing deep, Galvanor focused on returning his soul to its natural, untethered state, to that time before it had been shoved into this body. When he exhaled, his astral self hitched a ride on the breath of air.

Pride filled him, but it was soon lost under his need to concentrate fully. His corporeal body wavered, flickering in and out as he struggled to hold himself in two places at once. It was a strange feeling, experiencing the world through two bodies. It was even harder to differentiate between them, and he found himself disoriented and confused.

It cut through his concentration like a knife, and with a snap that left him reeling, he jerked back into his physical body. A sharp jab of pain sliced through him as his soul fought the confinements of his limbs. When asleep, his body was relaxed enough to not resist its re-entry; it obviously wasn’t when he was awake.

Gritting his teeth against the intense agony, Galvanor grappled to maintain his composure. His cell was still bathed in the full light of day, allowing whoever watched him to see every flicker of emotion that crossed his face.

When the pain finally faded into a dull throb, Galvanor breathed deep and tried astral projecting again.
